Wise to hire 150 new staff in Singapore hub expansion

Technology firm Wise has announced that it is expanding its Asia Pacific hub in Singapore this year, with plans to hire 150 new employees in the country. The company said that it will be hiring across different sectors, from engineering, product development, design, analytics, compliance, payments, and for other operations.

"We've come a long way from the one-man office we were when we first launched the country 5 years ago. Our Singapore office has since grown into a key hub for us and I'm delighted by the progress we've made in serving our customers both here in Singapore and across the region," said Kristo Käärmann, Wise CEO and co-founder. "As our APAC hub, Singapore serves as an important base for us as we continue to invest in making our mission 一 to make money work without borders 一 a reality for more people and businesses here and around the world."

The expansion came after its money transfer service expanded to a global cross-border payments network that serves over 12 million people and businesses.

Singapore Economic Development Board managing director Jacqueline Poh said that they are looking forward to Wise's continued growth in the country and in the region.

"Wise's expanding presence here as part of our thriving fintech ecosystem is well aligned with our mission to build an innovation-driven economy in Singapore. Wise's APAC hub will create exciting job opportunities in Singapore and is testament to our reputation as a strategic hub," Poh said in a statement.

It comes after Wise announced a new leave policy for employees who have been working for the company for over a year. Their benefits include 18 fully paid weeks of parental leave, 33 days of annual leave, and a three-day "me day" for their well-being.

Käärmann said this is the company's way of "setting the standard of balancing work and personal time."

"We're no strangers to challenging the status quo, and making things work better regardless of where people live," the CEO previously said.

According to the company, the benefits reflect its commitment to providing a better and balance place to work for its over 3,000 employees.

The technology firm was also recognised by employment website Glassdoor as one of the UK's Best Places to Work in 2022 and has been recognised as the Fintech Employer of the Year at the SFF Global FinTech Awards 2021.
