New app lets workers drive own learning

Informal ‘micro-learning’ tool encourages peer-to-peer sharing and empowers employees to embrace their own learning journey

New app lets workers drive own learning
Talent management service-as-a-software provider PageUp has launched the Everyday Learning App, designed to foster a self-directed and collaborative learning approach that encourages employees to drive their own learning anywhere and anytime.

Through Everyday Learning App, employees can capture informal, micro-learning and on-demand content from the web and then share it with their peers.

“It’s a revolution in learning that’s long overdue,” PageUp chief product officer Dayne Nash said.

“The rise of the millennial workforce, changing demographics and advancements in technology has increased the impetus for HR and L&D professionals to give way to informal methods of delivering learning and make it available when and where employees want it.”

At least 80% of work-related skills are learned on the job or informally, research says. Despite this, only one in five organisations spends even 10% of its L&D budget on informal learning methods.

The Everyday Learning App is meant to be used in conjunction with formal, organisation-led training.  Employees will have a simple and easy-to-use interface through which they can access information on demand, on any device, store it share it with peers across the organisation.

Learning content captured and shared via the app will be visible to managers.

“It’s our mission to create technology that people love to use,” said Nash. “This is a logical next step to helping our clients benefit from the value that informal learning, together with their formal L&D programs, has to offer.”

The Everyday Learning App has the following key features:
  • In-app search and add functionality: Employees can search for and add learning content from within the app interface itself.
  • Directly add content from the browser: Employees can add learning content directly to the app from their mobile browsers through an iOS or Android share extension.
  • Easily accessible personalised learning content: Companies can have all captured and personalised, informal learning housed in the employee’s development plan, accessible on both the app and on their web-based, PageUp LMS interface.
  • Share learning with peers and team members: Employees can share relevant learning content with colleagues or direct reports.
  • Track and measure informal learning: Administrators can track and report on all informal learning undertaken and shared, via robust analytics dashboards and tools.
