Aon Hewitt knows engaged employees drive better business results, and engaged managers play a core role in this outcome. The HR team, led by HRD Hot List professional Noora Alsagoff (see HRD issue 2.1), has put this insight into action by encouraging employee empowerment and learning from the manager level down. For managers this has meant building strong leadership capabilities, and empowering leaders to take actions that increase the engagement of their teams. HR has focused particularly on helping managers undertake effective performance management and career development planning for teams that foster successful and satisfying career paths. For employees, Aon Hewitt has put transparency at the forefront, giving access to an online portal with all the tools and information needed for career development, and engaging in constant communication to encourage best practice and networking. Learning also plays a central role in engagement: Aon Hewitt recently succeeded in organising a 25-week learning challenge that built employee learning agility and had an 89% participation rate.
