There truly is no escaping social media. Whether its updates on who got a new job where or photos of Harry from accounting’s lunch from earlier today, everything is online and in your face.

Even in the workplace, social media platforms and communication tools replicating their informal, always-online models are becoming the go-to means for relaying information.

As such, HR managers all over the world are scrambling to find out how to best incorporate these digital tools into their workflows. But with the plethora of platforms available today and the billions of people populating them, the challenge is knowing where to start.

A new survey from staffing firm The Creative Group, a subsidiary of Robert Half, asked 400 executives and over 1,000 workers in the U.S. for their social media platform of choice. The results showed clear winners in terms of overall preference, but subtle differences across organizational levels.

Head and shoulders above the pack was Facebook, with 44% of executives and 58% of workers saying they would choose it if they were forced to limit their social media consumption to only one platform.

LinkedIn followed with 17% of executives and 13% of workers choosing the professional networking site as their top choice.

Interesting to note is that while both groups ranked platforms in largely the same way, Facebook was more popular among workers than executives. Meanwhile, LinkedIn drew in more executives than workers.
