Despite employees' desire to upskill, a recent study finds that only half of companies are providing adequate training

Only half of Singapore employers are providing adequate training to future-proof their workforce, according to a recent study by Randstad Workmonitor.

This, despite employees’ overwhelming desire to learn new skills and remain relevant in a digital-led environment.

More than eight in 10 of workers believe they will need to upgrade their skills, with about 89% willing to personally acquire them to remain employable.

Additionally, more than seven in 10 workers believe emerging technologies will have a positive impact on their job in the next five to 10 years. The study found that about half of employers are investing in new technologies such as machine learning, robotics and automation.

Of those surveyed, 72% think employers should offer the necessary digital training to increase productivity. However, only 51% of employers are doing so. This had led 63% of employees to proactively invest in efforts to learn about tech like AI.

Confidence about the future
Overall, employees remain optimistic about digital transformation: eight in 10 are positive that the changes will present them with new opportunities.

Employees (82%) are also confident that the younger generation are being taught the right digital skills in school and preparing them well for the future workforce.
